Sedgefield WILLIAMSBURG Solid Brass Candle Sconces
(The items below were originally produced by Virginia Metalcrafters for Williamsburg)
Colonial Single and Double Arm Sconces
Interpreted from English antiques in the Colonial Williamsburg collections, these lacquered sconces turn 18th-century function into modern form. Sconces or "wall lights" maximized and diffused candlelight by reflection, and were therefore commonly used in public places, such as churches, taverns, or town halls. Glass globes were often added to protect the flame from drafts, and sometimes a "smoke bell" was placed above the sconce to protect the ceiling from scorch marks. |

All Sedgefield WILLIAMSBURG items are lacquered and do not require polishing. The pieces require no maintenance other than dusting with a soft clean cloth. The beautiful color of Sedgefield WILLIAMSBURG brass sets it apart from any other. The carefully controlled brass formula matches a small sample taken from a 17th-century candlestick in the collections of Colonial Williamsburg. Thus the unique color and finish continues to preserve our country's design heritage. The WILLIAMSBURG Reserve Collection hallmark is found on those items which have been approved by The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation as meeting their exacting standards for authentic reproductions and adaptations. The WILLIAMSBURG script trademark indicates an interpretation of a Colonial Williamsburg antique.
